Course Description: This course serves as a foundation subject in the criminology program thereby offered as pre-requisite to all other major subjects in the curriculum. It is designed to introduce the fundamental concepts and principles in criminology and criminal sociology; presents an overview about crimes, criminals, victims as objects of interests in the study of criminology with emphasis on the different theories and philosophies that could explain crime causation. Further, it provides background information in other fields of disciplines like criminal law, law enforcement, criminalistics, crime detection and investigation and correctional administration.
